Sleep Well Knowing You’ll Sleep Well

Delta understands that business travel demands are ever increasing. The demand for increased productivity means more business travel requires overnight flights and for the traveler to hit the ground running the next day. With that in mind, we want to create the best sleep experience possible. This includes flat bed seats and the new bedding experience in Business Elite, food options to help you sleep or help you be more productive in flight, thinking through how lights and sound effect your experience, and many other aspects to increase your comfort and sleep.
Most recently we partnered with Oxford sleep expert Dr X Foster to better understand the effects of jet lag and how exposure to specific lights can mitigate the impact of disrupting the circadian system when traveling multiple time zones. The result was the creation of the Photon Shower that was showcased at TED Long Beach and is being tested now. The device allows customers to enjoy a 90 sec “shower” of light that helps with the body adjustment into the new zone.
In the mean time, enjoy these fun facts on sleep.
1. Sleep is a human necessity.
We spend 1/3 of our lives asleep.
2. You are how you sleep.
Sleep research notes that good sleep aids in productivity, creativity, cognitive functions, problem solving and empathy.
3. Sleep deprivation is a killer.
It is linked with obesity, heart disease, cancer and even death
4. Sleep trumps sex.

5. Sleep can skew sports results.
A study in 1993 proved professional sports teams that just flew eastward would give up one run every game
