Star Spangled Delta
By: Marie F., Delta Archivist, Atlanta
Remember this? Our familiar red, white and blue “widget” logo wore the stars and stripes in 1976. This special design for the U.S. Bicentennial gave a patriot look to our aircraft fleet that year.
The first Bicentennial plane rolled out of the paint shop in October 1975, and took its first flight to Boston, Massachusetts, a city with historic connections to the beginnings of our country.
The phrase “We the People … 1776-1976” in the design, refers not only to the preamble of the U.S. Constitution but to the spirit of the Delta personnel as they celebrated the nation’s 200th birthday.
Happy Fourth of July!
