Dublin // 1 City 5 Ways (Bonus Stops!)
By Steve Marsh, Delta Sky Senior Writer
Each month, Sky magazine highlights five ways to discover a destination. Here are a few more Dublin hot spots to check out.
For the U2 Groupie // Vintage Cocktail Club
As you wind your way through Dublin’s cobbled streets, it can be difficult to find the barely marked door (make sure you have a reservation). By the time you leave, it may be even more difficult to wind your way home.
For the Bloomsdaytripper // Sweny’s Pharmacy
Famously “preserved through neglect” to resemble the 19th-century apothecary shop that Leopold Bloom visits in chapter five of Ulysses, it’s also 50 yards from where Nora Barnacle first stood up Joyce himself.
For Landed Gentry // High tea at the Shelbourne Hotel
Michelle Obama stayed here during her visit with her daughters last summer. High tea in the Lord Mayor’s Lounge is a delight.
For the Fenian // Kilmainham Gaol
Built in 1796, the New Gaol incarcerated generations of rebel leaders. Now it serves as “The Irish Bastille,” a landmark to their independence. U2 filmed the video for “Celebration” here.
For the Riverdancer // Gallagher’s Boxty House
A “boxty” is the Irish version of the potato pancake, the staple of many a country diet in Connacht. The entire menu here is an ode to the humble spud. boxtyhouse.ie
