Fork & the Road // Hot New Restaurants
By: Andrew Zimmern, Delta Sky Contributing Editor
In the latest issue of Sky, I look at some of my favorite new restaurants in America. Here are two more that I’m loving right now.
I was stumped when I heard Chicago’s Fat Rice specialized in Macau-style cuisine. Macau is to Asia what Las Vegas is to North America, and while both offer great dining, neither has it’s own style. But now I get it. These guys expertly meld Chinese, Indian, Southeast Asian and European flavors into an amazing flavor bomb Chicagoans can’t stop talking about. Think cool pickles (sour chili cabbage, spicy garlic cucumbers) and plates to share. Try the hand-rolled chee chong fun noodles and piri piri chicken, served with a Goan tomato sauce and coconut rice.
My friend Edward Lee of 610 Magnolia fame recently opened MilkWood in the lower level of Louisville’s Actors Theatre. Try his chicken and waffles, served with radish, dill chili paste and buttermilk dressing, or anything he does with duck. Lee’s style of food and service are all top notch, and his hilarious, quirky nature shines through everything he does.
