Hannah Storm’s Favorite Street // La Rambla, Barcelona, Spain
By Chris Clayton, Delta Sky Deputy Editor
In the latest issue of Sky, ESPN sportscaster Hannah Storm takes us on a tour of La Rambla, which she describes as “the beating heart of Barcelona.” Here, Storm recalls the first time she visited the bustling commercial node.
“Ever since I hosted the Summer Olympics in 1992, Barcelona has been one of my favorite cities in the world. One of my fondest memories of those games was the Dream Team—the gold medal-winning men’s basketball team from the U.S. that featured Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and company walking down La Rambla and mingling with all of the crowds that congregated there ever single night. La Rambla is the busiest street in Barcelona, with a huge esplanade down the middle where you can find any number of kiosks, street performers and people from around the world. The street performers are very elaborate and have incredible costumes and makeup. It’s just enjoyable to simply walk down the street and take in all the sights—you don’t have to necessarily shop or eat to have a great time. Just put on some comfortable shoes, put away that cell phone and take it all in.”
