Discover Delta // In-Flight Wine Training
By: Matthew Morrill, Flight Attendant Trainee
Delta loves to provide its customers with a unique flying experiences and one way it does this is through its Sky Sommelier program.
As trainees, we recently attended a class all about the wine Delta serves on board the aircraft and how it is selected. Not only did we learn how to read a wine label and pour the wine, but we also got to taste a California chardonnay and a California Merlot – two wines currently in service.
During the course, we also learned about the five “S’s” of wine tasting in the order in which they occur: sight, smell, swirl, sip and savor.
The whole experience was perfectly executed and a welcome relief from our day-to-day training. It showed how much Delta as a company cares about customer service and delivering a great onboard experience
I very much enjoyed this fun and educational experience and look forward to pouring wine as a future Delta flight attendant.
Delta makes a significant investment in its wine selection to ensure the airline is not only competitive, but that it is also offering a uniquely suited group of wines as passengers lose 30 percent of their palate at 30,000 feet. Delta Master Sommelier Andrea Robinson has partnered with the airline exclusively to provide the best possible selection of wines for BusinessElite and first class cabins since 2008.
