Throwback Thursday // Douglas DC-6
By: Marie Force, Delta Archivist, Atlanta
Delta in-flight comfort reached new heights with the 56-passenger Douglas DC-6!
This was our first pressurized plane, so Delta pilots could fly higher to avoid bad weather. Customers enjoyed the cool temps of our first air-conditioned cabins and our first seat trays. A Sky Lounge in back of the plane had “easy-chair comfortable seats” for six people. Delta ads invited you to “join your friends for quiet conversation, cards or coffee, in the luxurious atmosphere of an exclusive club.”
We advertised our DC-6 service as “None Faster, None Finer, to and thru’ the South.” Find out more about our deluxe DC-6 service in this colorful 1948 brochure.
